Christmas Countdown — Days Until December 25
Updated: May 2026
A Christmas countdown is one of the most searched live timers of the year. Whether you want to display it on a home screen, share it with family in a group chat, or just satisfy the curiosity of how many days until December 25, a live clock is more satisfying than a static number.

How many days until Christmas — the honest answer
The answer changes by timezone. "December 25" in London starts 5 hours before "December 25" in New York and 11 hours before Los Angeles. For most personal uses this does not matter — you set the countdown to your local midnight on December 25th and the ticking is correct for you.
If you are sharing the countdown with family members in different countries, set the timezone to the city where the celebration will take place. Everyone who opens the link will see the same time remaining to Christmas morning in that location, even if they are viewing it from the other side of the world.
Use the "New Year" preset in the tool, then manually change the date to December 25 and the title to "Christmas". The preset fills the form for you and you only edit two fields.
Christmas countdowns for children
Children experience waiting very differently from adults. The abstract concept of "a few weeks" is meaningless to a six-year-old; the concrete number "18 days" displayed on a screen is far more tangible. Posting a countdown where children can see it daily transforms the wait into something measurable and therefore more manageable.
Pairing the countdown with a daily advent tradition makes the ticking visual even more engaging. Each day the number drops, the tradition fires, and the connection between time passing and the approaching holiday becomes concrete rather than abstract.
For younger children, showing only the days column (rather than all four units) removes the anxiety of watching seconds tick by and keeps the focus on the big number going down day by day.
Christmas shopping deadline countdowns
One of the most practical uses of a Christmas countdown is not the holiday itself but the deadlines before it: last shipping date for standard delivery, last online order date for guaranteed delivery, last day to book travel at reasonable prices.
You can run multiple countdowns simultaneously:
- Christmas Day — the main event, December 25.
- Last standard shipping date — typically December 18–20, depending on carrier.
- Christmas Eve — December 24, for in-person gatherings.
- Advent start — December 1, the traditional opening of the season.
Each countdown can have a different label and color so they are distinguishable at a glance. Pin the most urgent one (shipping deadline) to the top of the list.
Sharing a Christmas countdown with family
The share button on each countdown generates a URL that encodes the event details. Paste it into a family group chat and every member can open it in their browser — no app, no account, no installation. The countdown runs locally in each person's browser, so it works on any device that has a modern web browser.
