Age Calculator in Days, Weeks and Months

Updated: May 2026

Most people know their age in years, but age in days, weeks or months carries surprising meaning — from tracking a baby's development milestones to verifying eligibility for insurance, scholarships or legal rights that depend on an exact age threshold rather than a rounded birthday year.

How age in days is calculated

Age in days is the total number of calendar days from the date of birth to the reference date (today by default). A person born on January 1, 2000 and checking on January 1, 2026 has lived through 26 years, which includes 6 or 7 leap years (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024), each adding one extra day to the total. The exact day count for that 26-year period is 9,497 days (26 × 365 + 7 leap days).

Age in weeks is the total days divided by 7. Age in months counts complete calendar months plus remaining days. These three representations give different levels of granularity and serve different purposes.

The Flowfiles age calculator also shows the day of the week you were born and your zodiac sign. These are calculated from the exact date of birth and do not require any external data.

Baby development milestones in days and weeks

In paediatric and parenting contexts, a baby's age is tracked in days and weeks for the first several months of life. This precision matters because developmental milestones — feeding schedules, sleep patterns, vaccinations, growth charts — are calibrated to gestational-corrected age and change rapidly in the first year.

  • Day 0–14 — newborn phase, weight regain after birth loss, first paediatric visits
  • Week 4–6 — social smile typically appears, first growth spurt
  • Week 8 — first round of vaccinations (DTaP, Hib, PCV, rotavirus)
  • Week 16 — second vaccination round, head control improving
  • Week 24 (6 months) — solid foods introduction window, sitting with support
  • Week 52 (12 months) — first birthday, MMR and varicella vaccines

For premature babies, corrected age (gestational age adjusted for early birth) is used for milestone tracking. If a baby was born 6 weeks early, subtract 6 weeks from their calendar age to get their corrected age.

Legal and insurance age thresholds

Many legal rights and insurance products activate on the exact birthday, not the calendar year. Turning 18, 21, 25 or 65 on a specific date means that rights and obligations change precisely on that day. Car rental companies (often requiring age 25 or 26 for full rates), term life insurance (pricing inflects at 5-year birthday boundaries) and junior ISAs (maturing at exactly age 18) all depend on the calendar date, not the year alone.

Scholarship and competition eligibility cutoffs often use a "must be under 18 on the date of the competition" rule. Whether a contestant born on the competition date itself qualifies can depend on whether the rule is "under 18" (requires at least one day under) or "18 or under" (qualifies through the birthday).

Calculating age on a past or future date

The Flowfiles age calculator allows you to set a reference date other than today. Enter a date in the past to see how old someone was on a specific historical date — useful for obituaries, biographies, historical research or legal disputes where age at a specific moment is relevant. Enter a future date to see how old someone will be on their next milestone birthday, retirement date or a future event.

Frequently asked questions

How old am I in days?

Enter your date of birth in the Age tab of the Flowfiles date calculator. The result instantly shows your total days alive, alongside years, months, weeks and hours. The number changes daily — bookmark the page to check it anytime.

How is age calculated in days?

Age in days is the number of calendar days from birth to the reference date. It accounts for leap years automatically, since each leap year adds one extra day. One year of age equals 365 days in a common year and 366 days in a leap year.

Why does my age in days change every day?

Because the calculator measures days from your birth date to today's date, and today advances by one every 24 hours. Your day count increases by 1 at midnight each day in your local time zone.

Can I calculate a baby's age in weeks and days?

Yes. Enter the baby's date of birth in the Age tab. The total-weeks field shows the complete weeks lived plus remaining days. For gestational age (pregnancy stage), use the Between Dates tab with the last menstrual period (LMP) as the start date.
