How to use these copy-paste examples
Click Copy next to any entry. The text is instantly copied to your clipboard including all Unicode combining characters. Then open the app or site you want to paste into — Instagram bio, Discord message box, a tweet, a WhatsApp message, a Facebook comment, a LinkedIn post — and paste with Ctrl+V (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+V (Mac), or long-press → Paste on mobile.
The crossed-out effect will appear as soon as you paste. No extra steps, no conversion needed after pasting. The text is already formatted.
Why copy-paste works for strikethrough
Unicode combining characters — the invisible code points that create the strikethrough visual effect — are stored as part of the text string. When you copy text containing U+0336, the clipboard preserves every code point exactly, including the combining characters. Pasting transfers the complete string to the destination field, where the local rendering engine draws the strikethrough line just as it appeared on this page.
This works because Unicode is the universal text encoding standard. Every device that runs a modern operating system (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux) handles Unicode clipboard data identically. There is no conversion step and no data loss between systems.
When copy-paste strikethrough might not render
A small number of applications strip or normalize Unicode input before display. If you paste struck text and the strikethrough disappears, the application is actively removing the combining characters. This is uncommon — most mainstream apps do not do this — but can occur with:
- Some older CMS text editors that sanitize input for "clean" HTML output
- Discord server bots configured with Unicode normalization (some anti-spam bots)
- Legacy enterprise software with narrow Unicode profiles
- Certain email clients that auto-format plain text
If copy-paste doesn't work in your specific app, check if that app supports any native formatting syntax (like ~~tildes~~ in Discord or WhatsApp) as an alternative.
Struck alphabet and numbers — use cases
Individual struck letters are used to compose custom words or names not listed in the preset section. Copy individual letters and string them together in any word processor before pasting the final result. Alternatively, use the generator to convert any word in a single step.
Struck numbers are popular for price comparison content. Showing a higher original price crossed out next to a lower current price is a proven conversion signal in e-commerce posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste these into a PDF form?
PDF form fields with Unicode support (common in modern PDF viewers like Adobe Acrobat, Preview, or browser-native PDF readers) will render the combining characters. Older or locked PDF forms may strip them. Test on your specific PDF before relying on it.
Does pasting work on mobile keyboards?
Yes. Long-press in any text field on iOS or Android to get the Paste option. The clipboard transfers the complete Unicode string including combining characters.
Why are some letters slightly misaligned?
The combining stroke position depends on the font metrics of the rendering application. Different apps use different fonts, so the line may sit slightly higher or lower on some platforms. This is a font rendering difference, not a problem with the Unicode characters themselves.
